Model SM53R, a modulated receiver, has a specially-conditioned analog output that is compatible with ac-coupled amplifiers (Figure A.55). Models SM53E and SM53R form an opposed mode pair that may be fitted with lenses, apertures, or fiberoptic adaptors for a variety of close-differential sensing applications such as yarn break, wire break, and web flaw detection. The power of this modulated LED opposed sensor pair, plus the sensitivity of an ac-coupled amplifier, offers a solution to many otherwise impossible sensing applications.
