The model 275 Heald "sizematic" extended-bridge internal grinder is an automated machine featuring a 48" extended, swivelling bridge. The grinder is equipped with an Anilam "mini-wizard" digital readout system, a behind-wheel dresser, and a 10" 3-jaw chuck. Grinding is performed by a 14000 RPM Heald "red-head" grinding spindle powered by a 5 HP/3600 RPM motor.
Catalog specifications include a maximum swing over the table and inside the coolant splash guard of 16". The machine can grind bore diameters from a minimum of .125" up to a maximum of 5.5", with a maximum bore length of 5". The table longitudinal travel is 16", and the bridge grinding angle has a maximum included angle of 30-degrees. The workhead features a 1.625" hole through the spindle, a maximum swivel angle of 60-degrees, and four speeds ranging from 133 to 400 RPM, driven by a 1.5 HP motor. Grinding table speeds are infinitely variable from 0 to 20 FPM. Cross feed ranges include .0001" to .001" for roughing and .0001" for finishing. The overall dimensions are 14'9" L x 5'6" W, with an approximate weight of 13000 lbs.
