The Johnford SDMC Series delivers exceptional flexibility and structural integrity for machining the largest and heaviest workpieces. These sliding column, fixed-table bridge mills feature machine weights exceeding 400,000 lbs. and travels up to 30 meters, providing unlimited table load capacity and absolute accuracy across long production runs. Models are available with X-axis travels up to 25,000 mm (984″), and can be configured as 3-Axis, 5-Face, or full 5-Axis machines to match part geometries and complexity requirements. Johnford is known globally for building custom machine configurations to meet specific manufacturing needs.

3-Axis SDMC Bridge Mills
Johnford’s 3-axis SDMC machines are built for large, heavy-duty machining with X, Y, and Z travel only. This configuration provides the greatest simplicity and cost efficiency for shops that don’t require complex angular positioning. With a fixed table and sliding column design, the workpiece stays stationary—making these machines ideal for massive parts with extreme weight or length.

5-Face SDMC Bridge Mills
The 5-face SDMC configuration adds an automatic indexing head for multi-plane machining—enabling access to the top, front, rear, and both sides of a part. This reduces setups, improves part accuracy, and dramatically increases throughput. Johnford’s cradle-stored head design makes head changes automatic and efficient, while maintaining the same SDMC rigidity and table load capacity.

5-Axis SDMC Bridge Mills
Johnford’s full 5-axis SDMC machines are equipped with a 2-axis continuous contouring head for simultaneous 5-axis machining. Built on the same ultra-rigid sliding gantry platform, these machines are ideal for swept surfaces, angular features, complex contours, and deep cavities. Choose from Johnford’s in-house-designed AC-4 or AC-5 heads for high-performance cutting, depending on your torque, speed, and application requirements.
