USED 2004 Wabash 2254S-36-CLX
Overview
Description
Turn-Key, Low-Hour, 2004 Wabash 225 Ton 4-Post Hydraulic, Heated Platen Press (originally steam heated and since converted to oil), for composites molding. This Sterling Oil Heater is special, it is rated for 650F and requires nitrogen at all times during operation. Both machines have super low hours. There are many upgrades since purchasing this press in 2009. The original owner was Dupont. We are only the second owner! This machine has been predominantly used to mold small to medium drone aerostructures and robotic components. This press cannot be made for less than $600K new and it most certainly would not include all the additional options enumerated below. It takes 1 to 1.5 years to build a system like this. 3 months to commission it, 3 months to custom/design/engineer, then a minimum of typically 6 to 12 months to source components and build one. Press companies typically only build to your requirements. If you wish to make things like small wings or fuselage aerostructures and alike or just stamp out consolidated panels, this thing can easily do it.
Some of the unique features include, that it has a hydraulic servo leveling system on the right and left of the massive main cylinder to compensate for asymmetrical molds. It also has a $30K pressure-transducer and controller (brushed aluminum color with red digital text in the pictures). This allows for pressure adjustment of just 1/psi increments, yes that is right, you heard it, only 1/psi sensitivity.
Some of the many upgrades we have made over the years include and are not limited to the following:
1. Converted from steam to oil heat and purchased a custom designed 45/kW Sterling oil heater (included with the sale). Very low hours and cost between design, build hook up and more, was approximately $46K new. The original steam equipment is still attached and would not be hard to switch back, should you so desire. Oil provides the most accurate heating control, and this one is not ordinary being instead of having a typical 300F limit, ours is rated for 650F. So, you can process some of the highest-temperature, matrix/resin, materials out there.
2. We added "36x36", P-20 bolsters and had them electroless/Nickel plated for easy mounting of molds and alike having 1/2-13 tapped holes, nearly everywhere possible. This cost approximately $26K new.
3. A pneumatic ejector control system was added with plumbing and cost approximately $2.5K.
4. We removed 3 other, separate platens and their associated hydraulics to create a bigger daylight opening for matched metal molds. Additional platens are included with this price. The approximate cost was $20K.
5. Revised the PLC controller and programming for, 2 heated platens instead of 5. Approximate cost, $6K.
6. Extra hardware and hydraulics. Many spare parts, complete factory manual and electronic files are on hand as well. Hard to price, most are incomplete and require a lot of hunting, TCL and modifications, but not ours.
This machine is under power and can be operated by the prospective buyer in our Sunny Sarasota, Florida location. This machine weighs approximately 26,000 pounds and will require a professional, licensed and bonded rigging company to move it. We suggest a low-boy trailer and tarping or a Conestoga trailer to move this precious piece of equipment.
You will not find a better, cleaner more meticulously cared for or more adjustable Wabash of this year, size or type out there for sale, period. We can help you with the setup, operation, training and maintenance of this press along with material selection, tool design and more. Feel free to reach out to us with any questions.
The machine is being sold As-Is-Where is. This machine can be inspected under power and is in a clean climate-controlled facility. Must be a U.S. person with verifiable government issued ID to enter our facility being we are a Federal Government Contractor.
Additionally, we can expertly customize any of our presses with new controllers, robotics or programming, for an additional cost (TBD) and this extra work would not be included as part of the sale. All sales are final and must be completed through eBay.
Buyer is responsible for all Professional Rigging, Shipping/Transportation costs and insurance. The Riggers Must Be Licensed and Bonded and provide proof. We have economical options should you like to use a company we know. We are not affiliated with any Rigger but know some of the very best near us and have worked with most of them in our area, over the 26 years we have been in business.
Payment Must Be Made to Taylor & Lego Holdings, LLC, DBA/Rapid Composites via Wire Transfer or Money Order and clear the bank within 1-week of sale.
