NEW AWEA LG 8040

The AWEA LG-8040 Gantry Type Machining Center is engineered for demanding large-part machining applications where rigidity, accuracy and heavy-duty cutting performance are essential. Part of AWEA’s LG Series, the LG-8040 combines a highly rigid gantry structure, heavy-duty fixed worktable and advanced spindle technology to deliver dependable machining performance across large workpieces. The LG Series is designed for applications in industries including aerospace, shipbuilding, energy and machine tool manufacturing.

With an 8,000 mm X-axis travel, 4,000 mm Y-axis travel and 1,000 mm Z-axis travel, the LG-8040 provides substantial machining capacity while maintaining a space-efficient gantry configuration. Its heavy-duty table supports loads of up to 5,000 kg/m², making it well suited for large dies, structural components, machinery parts and other oversized workpieces.

The LG Series incorporates a super-rigid crossbeam and column structure developed using Finite Element Analysis (FEA). Critical mating surfaces between the crossbeam and slide saddle are precision hand-scraped to support rigidity, load distribution and machining accuracy. The Z-axis uses heavy-duty roller-type linear guideways, combining the cutting capability associated with boxway construction with fast movement and reduced abrasion.

For long-axis precision, the LG-8040's 8-metre X-axis configuration uses AWEA's patented zero-backlash rack-and-pinion system combined with a 1 μm high-resolution linear scale, designed to maintain dynamic accuracy over extended travel. Standard configuration features a 4,000 rpm BBT50 gear spindle powered by a 22 kW continuous / 26 kW 30-minute spindle motor. AWEA specifies maximum torque of 982 Nm at 253 rpm, providing the low-speed torque required for demanding heavy-duty cutting applications. Higher-speed gear and built-in spindle configurations are also available depending on machining requirements.
