Overview
Vertical Machining Centers (5-Axis or More)

The HURON UMILL Series is a line of high-performance, compact vertical machining centers designed with a fixed-portal structure and an integrated swiveling rotary table for full 5-axis simultaneous machining. Optimized for minimal floor space without sacrificing rigidity or workpiece capacity, the UMILL Series is engineered for precision and flexibility in machining complex parts—from roughing to finishing—across demanding industries such as aerospace, automotive, rail, energy, and high-precision mechanical engineering.

At the heart of the UMILL Series is a fixed ribbed cast-iron gantry that offers exceptional structural stability, effectively dampening vibrations and torsional forces during heavy cutting. The linear axes are equipped with preloaded ball screws and bearings, roller guideways, and automatic grease lubrication—ensuring high feed rates, repeatable motion, and minimal wear. The rotary A and C axes are driven mechanically through precision worm gears and helical gears, supported by hydraulic disc locks and absolute encoders for exact positioning and strong clamping torque, even during high-force operations.

The swiveling table is mounted on a cradle and moves along the X-axis to maximize rigidity and accessibility. A powerful direct-drive spindle provides high torque for aggressive metal removal, with ceramic bearings and direct motor coupling for precision, reduced vibration, and low maintenance. Operator-focused features such as an ergonomic tilting control panel, crane-accessible work area, simplified chip evacuation with spiral conveyors, and graphical CNC simulation make the UMILL Series an ideal platform for smart manufacturing environments.
