What you are buying
A refurbished Agilent 5975C single-quadrupole mass selective detector. It ionizes each compound as it elutes from the GC; the quadrupole then measures the mass spectrum. Electron ionization gives library-searchable spectra for identification; selected-ion monitoring drives trace quantitation.
Every unit moves through the GenTech Certified process. Solution Scientists disassemble and inspect each module, replace all consumables and degraded wear components, then tune and calibrate the instrument and verify performance against OEM and published benchmarks using known reference chemicals. The instrument ships with its verification report. A certified-refurbished system gives you that performance without the capital cost or the lead time of a new purchase.
What Agilent says about this platform
Agilent built the 5975C around a Triple-Axis detector, its high-energy dynode electron multiplier design, and states a signal-to-noise specification of 400:1 at 1 picogram of octafluoronaphthalene. The mass selective detector runs electron ionization or chemical ionization. Agilent automated CI tuning and reagent gas flow control to the same setup effort as EI. A true hyperbolic, gold quartz quadrupole covers a mass range to 1,050 u with low thermal expansion for stable calibration over time. The inert ion source runs to 350°C, which Agilent cites for better response on active compounds and late eluters. Synchronous SIM/Scan mode acquires selected-ion sensitivity and full-scan library data in the same run. Trace Ion Detection paired with Deconvolution Reporting Software pulls out trace components that coelute with other analytes or matrix peaks. Agilent backs the 5975C with a 10-year use guarantee and pairs it with the 7890A, 6890, and 6850 GC platforms.
What each component does
Ion source
Ionizes each compound as it elutes from the GC. Electron ionization produces reproducible, library-searchable spectra.
Quadrupole
Filters ions by mass. It scans a full spectrum for identification or holds on selected ions for the lowest detection limits.
Detector and vacuum
Counts the ions and stages the analyzer to high vacuum for stable, sensitive operation.

What “GenTech Certified” means
Refurbishment at GenTech is a defined process, not a wipe-down. Every system moves through the same five stages.
1. Disassembly and rebuild. Solution Scientists strip the instrument down, clean each module inside and out, and rebuild it from the frame up. They replace pump seals, pistons, and check valves to specification.
2. Configuration and new parts. Solution Scientists install the options and modules you selected and fit new wear parts throughout. They replace the detector lamp with a new one and reset the lamp hours.
3. Diagnostic and performance testing. Solution Scientists tune and calibrate the instrument, run system diagnostics, and confirm detector wavelength accuracy. They test full-system pressure and gradient performance against OEM and published benchmarks using known reference chemicals.
4. Data package you approve before shipment. The verification data goes to you for approval before the system leaves the bench. You see exactly how the instrument performs before it ships.
5. Delivery and installation. The instrument ships in protective packing with a one-year warranty option and professional installation available from a GenTech Solution Scientist.
