What Agilent says about this platform
Agilent built the 5975C Inert XL MSD around an inert ion source, programmable up to 350 degrees Celsius, which improves response for active compounds and late-eluting peaks. A proprietary hyperbolic quadrupole extends performance to 1050 u; a quartz monolith holds analyzer stability at temperatures up to 200 degrees Celsius, which cuts the contamination common at lower operating temperatures. The Triple-Axis HED-EM detector reaches a signal-to-noise ratio of 400 to 1 on a 1-picogram OFN injection. Trace Ion Detection, paired with the second generation of Deconvolution Reporting Software, identifies and quantifies trace components that coelute with other analytes or matrix peaks. Synchronous SIM/Scan mode monitors selected ions at high sensitivity while simultaneously collecting library-searchable scan data in the same run. The XL designation uses a Performance Turbo Pump, distinct from the standard Turbo pump on the base 5975C inert MSD, and pairs with the Agilent 7890A, 6890, or 6850 GC. MSD Productivity ChemStation runs most labs; MSD Security ChemStation adds 21 CFR Part 11 controls for regulated environments.

Inert Ion source
Ionizes each compound as it elutes, programmable up to 350°C for improved response to active compounds and late eluters. Electron ionization produces reproducible, library-searchable spectra.
Mass analyzer
A hyperbolic quadrupole filters ions by mass up to 1050 u. It scans a full spectrum for identification or holds on selected ions for the lowest detection limits, with synchronous SIM/Scan mode running both at once.
Transfer line
Carries the separated compounds from the GC oven into the mass spectrometer at controlled temperature, with no cold spots to lose heavy analytes.

What “GenTech Certified” means
Refurbishment at GenTech is a defined process, not a wipe-down. Every system moves through the same five stages.
1. Disassembly and rebuild. Solution Scientists strip the instrument down, clean each module inside and out, and rebuild it from the frame up. They replace pump seals, pistons, and check valves to specification.
2. Configuration and new parts. Solution Scientists install the options and modules you selected and fit new wear parts throughout. They replace the detector lamp with a new one and reset the lamp hours.
3. Diagnostic and performance testing. Solution Scientists tune and calibrate the instrument, run system diagnostics, and confirm detector wavelength accuracy. They test full-system pressure and gradient performance against OEM and published benchmarks using known reference chemicals.
4. Data package you approve before shipment. The verification data goes to you for approval before the system leaves the bench. You see exactly how the instrument performs before it ships.
5. Delivery and installation. The instrument ships in protective packing with a one-year warranty option and professional installation available from a GenTech Solution Scientist.
