What you are buying
With its advanced technology and robust construction, the Agilent 1200 HPLC Prep System offers exceptional performance and efficiency. It delivers precise and accurate separations, allowing you to analyze high-purity compounds with ease. This preparative HPLC system provides flexibility in terms of application and bench space.
By choosing a refurbished Agilent 1200 HPLC Prep System, you gain access to top-quality performance at a fraction of the cost of a new system.
Every unit moves through the GenTech Certified process. Solution Scientists disassemble and inspect each module, replace all consumables and degraded wear components, then tune and calibrate the instrument and verify performance against OEM and published benchmarks using known reference chemicals. The instrument ships with its verification report. A certified-refurbished system gives you that performance without the capital cost or the lead time of a new purchase.
What Agilent says about this platform
Agilent designed the 1200 Series – including its dedicated preparative scale configurations – as a Rapid Resolution LC platform, up to 20 times faster than conventional HPLC with 60 percent higher resolution. A high-throughput configuration processes more than 2,000 samples a day using Alternating Column Regeneration: two pumps, two columns, and a switching valve trade one column back onto equilibration while the other runs. The 1200 keeps full compatibility with existing HPLC methods and columns. Agilent made it reverse-compatible with the 1100, down to an 1100 Emulation Mode for software that does not yet support the 1200. The pump runs 0.05 to 5 mL/min at up to 600 bar. The column compartment holds temperature from 10°C below ambient to 100°C. Early Maintenance Feedback tracks lamp burn time, usage, and injection counts against configurable limits and flags service before a module fails mid-run. Agilent designed the 1200 with more than 60 available instrument modules, covering prep-scale, standard, narrow-bore, capillary, and nanoflow LC on one platform.
What each module does
Pumps (2)
Deliver the mobile phase at constant flow and blend the gradient. The 1200 Prep Pumps deliver flow rates settable from 0.001 up to 100 mL/min across a pressure range of 20 to 400 bar (5880 psi).
Sampler
Draws a precise volume from the vial or well plate and injects it onto the column. Automated sampling runs unattended sequences overnight. The 1200 Prep Sampler handles high-volume or replicate injections (1 to 99 per vial) with a sample capacity of 100 standard 2-mL vials or 15 6-mL vials.
Column compartment
Holds the column at a set temperature, which fixes selectivity and retention time. Temperature control turns a method written in one lab into the same method in another.
Detector
Measures each compound as it leaves the column. The diode-array detector records full UV-visible spectra for identification and purity; variable-wavelength, fluorescence, refractive-index, and evaporative light-scattering detectors cover the analytes UV cannot see.

What “GenTech Certified” means
Refurbishment at GenTech is a defined process, not a wipe-down. Every system moves through the same five stages.
1. Disassembly and rebuild. Solution Scientists strip the instrument down, clean each module inside and out, and rebuild it from the frame up. They replace pump seals, pistons, and check valves to specification.
2. Configuration and new parts. Solution Scientists install the options and modules you selected and fit new wear parts throughout. They replace the detector lamp with a new one and reset the lamp hours.
3. Diagnostic and performance testing. Solution Scientists tune and calibrate the instrument, run system diagnostics, and confirm detector wavelength accuracy. They test full-system pressure and gradient performance against OEM and published benchmarks using known reference chemicals.
4. Data package you approve before shipment. The verification data goes to you for approval before the system leaves the bench. You see exactly how the instrument performs before it ships.
5. Delivery and installation. The instrument ships in protective packing with a one-year warranty option and professional installation available from a GenTech Solution Scientist.
Labs that run this system
The 1200 HPLC is method-compatible across the techniques most regulated and research labs run every day. These are the application areas buyers ask about most.
Assay, Impurity and dissolution
The 1200 transfers cleanly into USP monograph assays, related-substance profiling, and dissolution testing. Quaternary blending simplifies mobile-phase transfer between labs.
EPA HPLC methods
Diode array detection supports EPA HPLC methods for contaminants and residues in water and soil, including PAHs, explosives, and carbamates.
Additives and vitamins
The system quantifies preservatives, sweeteners, organic acids, and fat-soluble vitamins at the throughput a production-support lab needs.
Cannabinoid potency
HPLC with UV detection is the reference technique for potency. The 1200 resolves the major cannabinoids for compliance and label-claim testing.
Botanical actives
Labs quantify polyphenols, flavonoids, and marker compounds in extracts and nutraceutical formulations across long, reproducible sequences.
Screening and drug monitoring
The 1200 runs HPLC-UV workflows for therapeutic drug monitoring and drugs-of-abuse screening, where method portability and uptime matter more than peak novelty.
Purity and additives
Industrial labs separate and quantify synthesis intermediates, polymer additives, and stabilizers for QC and release testing.
Four-solvent scouting
Agilent recommends the quaternary pump for method development. Blend up to four solvents to scout selectivity before you lock a final method.
Proteomics, metabolomics, lipidomics
Many omics workflows use mass spectrometry for detection and rely on LC for separation. The 1200 serves as the front end feeding your MS or fraction collector.
