FAE BL4/SSL-150 High-Flow Forestry Mulcher, 62" Working Width

The FAE BL4/SSL-150 is a high-flow forestry mulcher for skid steers and compact track loaders, with a 62-inch working width, a Bite Limiter rotor and 26 BL/MAX forged-steel blades. We offer VT and SONIC motor versions, both with adjustable skids and replaceable Hardox wear plates. It suits brush clearing, wooded right-of-way maintenance and orchard cleanup.
FAE rates the BL4/SSL family for material up to 12 inches in diameter; wood species, carrier hydraulic power and the finish you want affect travel speed and the number of passes.
Bite Limiter rotor and cutting tools
The standard rotor carries 26 BL/MAX forged-steel blades. Hardox steel profiles around the rotor limit how deeply the blades bite into wood. By controlling the amount taken at each cut, the Bite Limiter helps keep the rotor turning as it feeds through material.
For a wear-resistant alternative, consider the optional C/3/MAX teeth. They use tungsten-carbide inserts and are designed for wood, exposed stumps, shrubs and branches. We can help you choose between the standard forged-steel blades and carbide teeth for the material you clear and the wear your work puts on the tools.
VT and SONIC options
We offer VT and SONIC versions. The VT piston motor automatically increases torque when the rotor needs more cutting force. SONIC adds automatic calibration to the skid steer’s hydraulics and continually adjusts the head’s hydraulic parameters as the load changes. It helps the rotor recover speed after a heavy cut.
With SONIC, FAE’s app lets you check rotor speed, mulching pressure and calibration, with diagnostics to help identify a problem. The electrical adapter must match your skid steer or compact track loader.
Hydraulics and wear parts
The BL4/SSL-150 calls for a high-flow carrier within FAE’s flow and pressure ranges, with a case-drain connection. Engine horsepower alone does not establish the hydraulic match. Check auxiliary output, cooling capacity and loaded attachment capacity along with the couplers and electrical connection.
Adjustable skids support working-height changes, while replaceable Hardox wear plates and soles protect the body where it meets abrasive material. The motor sits inside the frame, and the hydraulic block includes relief and anticavitation valves. A hydraulically adjustable rear hood is an available option.
