Description
Used Crown Iron Works Model 48 Milling Ring Flash Drying System designed for continuous drying, deagglomeration, and particle size reduction of powders, slurries, filter cakes, and centrifuge cakes. Originally designed for food-grade orange pulp processing with a production capacity of approximately 17,000 lbs/hr, this system is suitable for a broad range of industrial drying applications.
The Milling Ring Flash Dryer functions as a low-energy jet mill utilizing low-pressure air jets to create inter-particle collisions that break apart feed material without moving parts in the drying chamber or airstream. The torus-shaped (“donut”) dryer design promotes efficient deagglomeration and rapid evaporation while minimizing mechanical wear.
The system is divided into two primary sections:

Classifier Section

Feed material enters the recirculating hot air stream upstream of the nozzle system where centrifugal forces and particle-to-particle collisions immediately begin reducing particle size and exposing large surface area for rapid moisture evaporation. Fine dried product exits through the classifier outlet while oversized particles are continuously recirculated for additional drying and deagglomeration.
This process is particularly effective for crumbly, free-flowing cakes and moisture-sensitive products requiring fine discrete finished particles.
